Upset that proper protocol was not followed, Mayor Geeta Jain has threatened to boycott the Women’s Day event organised by the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) in Bhayandar on Wednesday.
The incident has once again exposed the widening rift in the local BJP unit and could do further harm to the party’s prospects ahead of the municipal elections in August-2017.
Jain has contended that names of office bearers and dignitaries mentioned in the invitation card were in breach of protocol.
In her letter to the municipal commissioner, Jain has demanded strict action against the officials who were responsible for the blunder.
“If the administration does not tender an apology, I will be left with no other option but to boycott the event. It’s so disrespectful to the first citizen of the city and I strongly believe that such lapses should not be tolerated nor repeated in the future.” said Jain.
Denying any breach of protocol an official said, “ The function is being held under the aegis of the Women’s and Child Welfare Department and the Mayor’s name is on the top along with other invited dignitaries.”
