Mira-Bhavander : It’s curtains for 55 watering holes in Kashimira after Supreme Court on Friday upheld its December 15 order prohibit ing sale of liquor within 500 metres of national and state highways.
Following the verdict, a team of excise personnel led by Inspector Abhijeet Deshmukh has rolled up their sleeves to ensure that all such establishments which fall within the red zone demarcated by the Supreme Court have discontinued selling liquor. As per official statistics, 51 permit rooms (including orchestra bars), 8 country bars, 2 wine shops and 8 beer bars have been identified on the highway belt in Kashimira that will be affected by the SC decision.
“Our priority is to ensure all such establishments comply with the judicial orders; our teams are personally conducting visits to verify termination of liquor dispensing activities,” said Deshmukh.
The excise wing has also initiated the process of stocktaking of liquor.
